At last, I have attended the first class of the fall season. I'm taking Conversational Spanish at CCSF in hopes of being able to deal with logistics in Southern Mexico next summer. The Profesora is great. She's from Spain, and is very active and engaging. I opted to go the "conversational" route this time based on my experiences with Brown's class last semester. I realized that I am nervous about speaking a foreign language, even if I know it well. So to face the fear, I am taking a class that focuses almost exclusively on speaking. I think it's going to be great.

The materials were very expensive. They came in a shrink wrapped package containing three books and a set of CDs. It was kind of a blow to be hit up for $135, but it's all new material, and probably worth it. I was taken aback by one of the books in the package. Apparently it's a guide to good study techniques. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm no prescriptivist (pardon my French), but I think that maybe the cover of a study guide is not the place for this:

I tend to read "do good" as something very different from "do well," but then, I grew up watching Superfriends.
